Sydney,

You've said before that you submit your sites to directories for 6-8 weeks, and then let it sit for about 2 months, and then submit it for another 6 to 8 weeks. Therefore, this would be 12-16 weeks of promotion for each site, submitting to 10 directories a day 5 days a week.

Obviously, there are 500 general directories from the info.vilesilencer list you've recommended, and not all of them are free, eliminating some right there. Therefore, it will probably take less than 10 weeks to run out of directories from that list. I'm just at the point with a good portion of my sites where I will need to start the second 8 week submission, and I'm not sure which directories to submit to since I'm on the verge of running out.

What do you do after this point? Do you let your submitters simply pick directories from lists they might already have? If you could let me know how you work this, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Josh

If anyone has any insight into the above post, that would be great. I don't mean to keep harping on this point, but I'm not sure to do with several of my sites, as it's time for the second 8 week submission period but I don't have enough directories to submit to. Anyway, thanks a lot.

Josh

Hi Josh. From the thread you and I had in September (http://community.auctionknowhow.com/showthread.php?t=189&highlight=directories), I now follow that plan.

I think to do that, though, Sydney may have an additional directory resource or two to tap into to get beyond vilesilencer's 500 limit.

Several weeks ago, I decided that submitting to directory sites each day would cause me to lose what's left of my mind (http://community.auctionknowhow.com/showthread.php?t=178&highlight=directories). I found an online directory submission service that charges 14 cents per submission (so, for example, $49 for 350 submissions) that I use. It's Directory Maximizer (http://www.directorymaximizer.com). They have over 900 directory sites they submit you. You provide all the relevant information about each site, and then you can select the number of directory sites you want your site submitted to. You can even select the number of sites based on their PR rank (even though they discourage that, I do it anyway). And you can have them spread out the site submissions by as much as 5 weeks.

So, for example, if you pay to have your site submitted to 300 directory sites, they will divide 300 by the number of weeks you select (say, 5) and therefore submit to 60 of them on week 1, the next 60 on week 2, etc. They don't further subdivide to spread the submissions out over 5 business days each week. For example, they don't submit to 12 on Week 1 - Monday, 12 more on Week 1 - Tuesday, etc. It's all 60 for Week 1 at the same time. And given the time it takes most directory sites to accept or reject your submission, that delay all by itself spreads out the submissions anyway.

Bottom line, though, in relation to your question is that is how I get around the vilesilencer limit of 500 and preserve my sanity. It does cost. But if down the road our sites start earning an average of $10/day ($300/month, every month), then I look at this service as an investment to the site and preservation of my much-needed time.

Mike,

Thanks for the great info; this is actually exactly the kind of service I've been looking for. I figure, assuming I do two 8 week submissions, I will be submittting to at most 800 directories over the life of each site, so 915 directories should be more than enough. I will definitely utilize this service, especially for that great price.

Josh
