Is anyone creating Google Sitemaps for their sites? It gives you some interesting statistics about your site - top ranking keywords, internal and external links, any errors, etc. I've used http://gsitecrawler.com/ to build them before, but I'm tying to figure out a way to have the xml sitemaps automatically updated when pages are added to my sites.

Anyone else experimented with this?

Google has a Python script that will allow you to automate this function. We use this on several of our sites.

That's the kind of thing I was looking for.

Thanks,

Google sitemaps make a big difference, SEO-wise. It is definitely something that everyone should do - and is on my 'topic list' for a Town Meeting in 2008. Jeremy is good at doing these because he's been doing them ever since Google first offered this option. I think it's gotten much easier now {I say 'I think' because they're a Jeremy-Job and I don't know how it's done}.

I'm not sure I understand what you all mean by Google sitemaps. Is this a software Google provides that will actually generate our sitemaps for us and update them automatically everytime we put new pages on, or does this mean simply submitting a sitemap we've already created ourselves through google.com/webmasters? This is the first of heard of this feature, and I'd definitely be interested in implementing it. Thanks a lot.

See the link above in my earlier post as its software from Google that creates the sitemap itself.

Josh, Google sitemaps are very cool because any new page you create is automatically sent right to G - rather than having to wait for them to find it. The first ones were difficult to create, but now they're much easier and you should definitely utilize them. Yahoo now allows them, too, but Jeremy is the expert on the "how to".

Sydney and Jeremy,

Thanks for the help; it sounds like a great feature. I will definitely start using it immediately. Thanks for the great info.

Hey guys, if you need to create XML, HTML sitemap files for your sites or to notify search engines about updated sitemap files use Sitemap Writer Pro (http://www.sitemapwriter.com/). I tried different software for creating the sitemap for my website. This is the most effective one among 5-6 programs I tried.
This powerful webtool generates the sitemap for your website in just seconds. Mayor search engines (Google, Yahoo, Ask, MSN, Moreover) (http://www.sitemapwriter.com/notify.php) are able to index and read your sitemaps without any problems.
