A member has graciously allowed us to see one of his new Tier C sites:

http://homestudyinteriordesign.com

I have two comments on this VERY nice site.

1. If he's not using tables on the Nav bar on the left (and he says he's not) then he's making it VERY hard to get high SE position. For example, on the front page the keyword phrase is "Home Study Interior Design". Yes, that is the first phrase the SE spider will see - but then it will also see ...

Interior Design Careers
Careers in Interior Design
Interior Design Career
Interior Design Degree
Career Info for Interior Design
Interior Design Distance Education
Interior Design College
Online Interior Design School
Etc.

Everyone needs to either learn how to fix this or put the Nav bar on the right! If you don't know how to leave the Nav bar on the left, which is a good place for it, it's because you haven't sent me a testimonial because I explain how to do this in my testimonial 'bribe'. It is important to learn this, folks!

2. Yesterday, the site owner had listed all of his articles at the bottom of the page & used a live link to each one. He has since removed them because I pointed out that he was "bleeding" Page Rank. This list is a good thing to do - especially since the links are after the keywords in the article - but I would still suggest using the "no follow" tags which are explained in the member area.

Hi Sydney,

I had a look at the source code of the home page and it seems this was done with XSitePro (XSP). In the source code, all the info that appears on the left-nav bar are actually at the very bottom.

If spiders read the source from top to bottom, would this mean that the page is OK from SEO viewpoint?

(Apart from SEO reasons though, I put my nav bar on the right and my Adsense code on the left so that Adsense is more prominent.)

If the navigation is appearing near the bottom in the html that is good for SEO (in most cases). We do that on some sites using tables.
